The sale of still wines in the French retail food sector has decreased by 4.3 percent from August 2023 to August 2024. According to the market research institute Circana, the value also decreased by 1.8 percent. In the retail food sector, 8.1 million hectoliters were sold. This corresponds to a total value of around 4.45 billion euros.
Both bottles (-4.5%) and bag-in-boxes (-3.7%) were affected. Red wines (-7.2%) saw the largest decline, followed by rosé wines (-3.4%) and white wines (-0.2%). Except for wines from Burgundy, which could increase slightly (+0.8%), all appellations suffered from weak demand. Wines from Languedoc-Roussillon were purchased 8.1 percent less, Beaujolais 7.9 percent, and Bordeaux 7.1 percent.
